A WALK IN THE PARK is a set of six unique pieces for beginning students. There are a lot of opportunities to work on musical expression in a wide variety of styles. “A Sunny Day” is a happy song in C position with left-hand crossing. “The Caterpillar’s Stately Dance” explores C minor and off-beat rhythms in a slow dance. “Birds in the Sky” lets the performer soar in close harmonies. “Let’s Play Hopscotch” is a fast, rhythmical song that jumps! “Rolling Down the Hill” shows young performers how music can express actions—rolling down a hill and then walking back up again—with lots of hand-over-hand cascading scales. Finally, “A Butterfly” is a soft, fluttering piece that imitates the flight of a beautiful butterfly.
